Indica (Cannabis indica)

A stout subspecies of the cannabis plant known for its relaxing effects. In popular cannabis culture, Indica strains, like Northern Lights and Granddaddy Purple, tend to be associated with more of a body high—a sense of relaxation, even sedation. It’s also reported to relieve pain and support sleep.

People often use the mnemonic “Indica = in-da-couch” to remember its common couch-locking, calming qualities. (See also: bedtime vibes, muscle melt).

These relaxing effects are partly attributed to its different terpene profiles. For example, higher myrcene and CBD:THC ratios than sativas. However, because most commercial strains are hybrids, not all indica labeled strains will knock you out. Some just flirt with your eyelids. Nonetheless, medicinally, Indica-leaning varieties are frequently chosen for nighttime use, muscle spasms, or anxiety relief.

These Indica plants are often shorter and bushier than sativas, and they boast broad, deep green leaves. Originating from cooler climates and higher elevations in Central South Asia, you might find it in places, like Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. So, think more mountain monks than beach bums.
