Bioavailability

In pharmacology, bioavailability refers to how much THC is absorbed into the bloodstream and made available at the site of biological activity.

In English?

It’s the percentage of a consumed THC dose that actively affects your body.

For example:

  • Smoking or vaping THC delivers cannabinoids to the bloodstream rapidly (high bioavailability—like… so high)
  • Ingesting THC, tastefully named edibles, delays and often reduces the bioavailability because your body must first digest it and metabolize it in your liver (but it usually also comes with a marked decrease in coughing fits)

In short, optimizing bioavailability is important because it determines the effective potency of your dose of THC.
